Volunteer with South Sacramento Christian Center Food Distribution 2026
COMING SOON: Thanksgiving Food Distribution 2026
Join us on November 21, from 7:30–10:00 AM, as we serve our community during our largest food distribution of the year. We expect to provide food for thousands of people, and we would love your help!
All volunteers should arrive at 6:30 AM for this special distribution. We also need extra hands for Friday preparation, and we have added additional shifts. Please see them below:
Friday, November 20th
8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
NOTE: Additional shifts are temporary during this year's Thanksgiving holiday prep. Shifts will return to our normal operations after the Thanksgiving holiday; please plan accordingly.
ALSO, if you plan to volunteer this Thanksgiving season, please sign up in advance! We will check volunteers in using our registration roster to keep participation organized and fair for everyone. Anyone who has not signed up will be added to the list for a future volunteer opportunity.

South Sacramento Christian Center is still actively distributing food every Saturday, and we're seeking volunteers to help us prepare groceries. If you are interested in helping in any of the areas listed below, please review the task descriptions and choose the dates and times that work best for you. Be sure to leave your contact information so someone can respond to your inquiry. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you soon! (January 01, 2025).
As a volunteer in the food distribution center, your duties on Fridays will include (1) assembling bags (or boxes) of groceries, (2) light lifting (up to 10 lbs), (3) cleanup (sweeping, cleaning/sanitizing frequently used areas), and recycling (cardboard boxes). You may be asked to assist in any of the areas mentioned during your shift, so flexibility is preferred.
On Saturday morning, you may be asked to assist with: (1) controlling the flow of traffic in the drive-thru, (2) putting groceries in people's cars for them when they pull up, (3) making more grocery bags (or boxes), and (4) resupplying/runner (keeping the drive-thru stocked with inventory)
CALLING ALL STUDENTS (ages 12 & up): If you have school-related community service to complete, we can help! Please bring all necessary documents with you when you come to volunteer. Note: School-related ONLY! (College prep and job-related community service are acceptable) - (Updated 11/24/2025)
STAY HEALTHY: If you feel ill or under the weather, we kindly ask that you reconsider volunteering and stay home. But feel free to contact us again once you are feeling better.
IMPORTANT! Due to the stay-home orders being lifted, we no longer provide delivery service, and we are no longer recruiting delivery drivers (Updated 09/24/2022)
CAUTION! We encourage you to please leave small children at home when you come to volunteer. During the giveaway, we have many moving parts and heavy equipment on the premises. Our age range for kids to volunteer is ages 12 and up. (updated January 28, 2024)
