(old) Help Staff Weather Refuge (cooling or warming center) for the Homeless

The City of Sacramento will be opening a warming or cooling center anytime temperatures reach below or above the exremw temperature thresholds.  

In the Summer the Cooling Center is open when the high temperatures are extreme and in the 100s for a series of days. HandsOn Sacramento volunteers help provide staffing for the Cooling Center for two shifts: 1:00 to 4:30 pm and 4:30 to 8 pm at the CIty of Sacramento Hart Senior Center; 915 27th Street, Sacramento, 95816. Volunteers will sign-in guests, provide water and snacks at make their air-conditioned resipite from the heat a comfortable one.

In the Winter the Warming Center runs from December through March on every evening when the temperatures fall below 40 degrees. HandsOn Sacramento has been asked to help provide staffing for the center throughout the night for two shifts (6 p.m. – 12 a.m. and 12 a.m. – 6 a.m.). The warming center will be at the Southside Park Pool House at Southside Park, 2107 6th Street, Sacramento, 95814. Security will be provided as well as snacks, drinks, and blankets for people who utilize the warming center.
