Family Science Night Facilitator

Sierra Nevada Journeys seeks volunteers to assist with Family Science Night educational events

·  Starting timeframe:  Ongoing

Sierra Nevada Journeys (SNJ) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that uses the unique outdoor classrooms of our region to deliver impactful science education to promote long-term student achievement. We do this by combining school-based curriculum, field and residential experiential programs, and professional development for teachers, creating a dynamic and comprehensive program for students and schools. Our programs offer students an opportunity to learn about nature in nature, through hands-on learning in a context that creates higher cognition and long-term student achievement.

SNJ is currently seeking capable volunteers to help develop the youth in the problem solvers, engineers, scientists, and critical thinkers of futre generations.  Specifically, we are seeking individuals interested in facilitating evening Family Science Nights.  These educational events bring students and their families together at their school for an evening of hands-on science exploration and design challenges.

Volunteering with Sierra Nevada Journeys is an opportunity to work with an industry-recognized organization and build your skills in: research-based methods of outdoor science education, inquiry-based instruction, and facilitating hands-on science experiences.   Family Science Nights take place on weekday evenings.  Volunteer time commitment would be from about 5:00-8:00pm.
