American Red Cross Shelter Worker Volunteer

American Red Cross Gold Country Region is looking for volunteers who can deploy to disaster shelters over this wildfire season. Volunteers who are trained and signed up with American Red Cross are background checked, trained, and ready to roll out, if called.

Shelter Worker Volunteers work in-person in a Red Cross shelter before, during, and/or after a disaster event. They are necessary for completing tasks in shelter operations and provide assistance to folks who have been evacuated from an area affected by disaster. They will support day-to-day activities within the shelter including reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, and other tasks within a shelter.

Shelter Workers must be
1. Able to complete online training
2. Able to commit to at least ten consecutive days for a deployment, preferably two weeks
3. Willing to deploy at least once this wildfire season to a shelter. You are not expected to be on-call everyday. Responder availability can be toggled on and off to accommodate life. The expectation is that you can deploy at least once this 2022 Wildfire Season.

Shift times will typically be 10 to 12 hours, depending on where and how big the disaster is.
