Cooling Center in South Sacramento Needs Volunteers

Sacramento Capitol Seventh-day Adventist Church is activating its location as a cooling center as a respite from extreme heat for all residents, including unsheltered guests.   No pets are permitted.

Responsibilities of Volunteers include some of the following:

Opening SHIFT I (first shift):
  • Help to prepare and open the center set out drinks, snacks, post indoor signage and set out onboard registration of guests.
  • May assist set up chairs for guests with appropriate social distancing. May assist with setting up banquet table for snacks, waters, and assist with all COVID protocols with setting out hand sanitizers, masks, etc and banquet table for sign-in sheets, COVID Survey, waivers, etc
  • Volunteers will be sitting, standing, rotating responsibilities of hall monitor, Greeters, distribution of snacks & water, greeters and intake registration table.  If physically able, some volunteers may assist in setting up tables, chairs and transporting bottled water and snacks from kitchen to congregate areas
  • The Cooling Center is indoors in the Seven-Day Adventist air conditioned Church.  
  • A mask is required to be worn by all persons in sheltering facilities regardless of vaccination status.   A mask will be provided for those without masks.  All COVID Protocols are observed for the protection of volunteers and all cooling center guests.
 Closing SHIFT II (second shift):
 
  • Perform duties of assigned by Volunteer Coordinator (Intake, Hospitality & Snacks, monitor Bathroom, etc)
  • Help close the center Secure garbage and dispose in dumpster, if applicable. 
  • Secure water back in refrigerator and snacks back in appropriate storage container.
  • Wipe down tables, counters etc.
    Volunteers will be sitting, standing, rotating responsibilities of hall monitor, Greeters, distribution of snacks & water, greeters and intake registration table.  If physically able, some volunteers may assist in setting up tables, chairs and transporting bottled water and snacks from kitchen to congregate areas

Wednesday, July 28th, 11 am-7:00 pm

Thursday, July 29th, 11 am-7:00 pm

Friday, July 30th, 11 am-7:00 pm

 

Two shifts for volunteers:

11:00am-3:00pm - 3 volunteers needed
3:00pm-7:30pm - 3 volunteers needed

Masking is required at all shelters and cooling centers until further notice.   A mask will be provided for volunteers or guests who did not bring their own.
