Volunteer Victim Advocate
The I-CAN Foundation is a crime victims assistance organization based in Sacramento. We provide services free of charge to victims of violent crime. Our services include: information, referrals, peer counseling, advocacy, and accompaniment to parole hearings.
I-CAN Volunteers work to enhance the victim-centered approach embraced by the I-CAN Foundation. Advocates provide crisis intervention, peer counseling, emotional support, and other services to victims and their loved ones. In addition, volunteers assist the organization in outreaching to the community and other organizations.
Individuals interested in becoming a Victim Advocate must first successfully complete the Victim Advocate Training that covers a variety of subjects on victims services.
General Qualifications:
Must be 21 years or older
Must relate sensitively to victims
Communicate well with others and be a good listener
Maintain confidentiality
Be willing to submit to a live scan background check
Complete a 40+ hour training and ongoing training
Bi-lingual individuals are encouraged to apply (especially those fluent in Spanish).
