Help Staff a Cooling or Warming Center
Local Weather Refuge or Warming and Cooling Centers open anytime temperatures reach below or above the exreme temperature thresholds for our region. Cooling Centers In the Summer Cooling Centers are open when the high temperatures are extreme and in the 100s for a series of days. HandsOn Sacramento volunteers help provide staffing for Cooling Centers usually in two shifts: 1:00 to 4:30 pm and 4:30 to 8 pm at local city and faith-based facilities. Volunteers will sign-in guests, provide water and snacks at make their air-conditioned resipite from the heat welcome and comfortable. Warming Centers In the Winter the Warming Center runs from December through March when overnight low temperatures are temperatures fall below 32 degrees. HandsOn Sacramento has been asked to help provide staffing for these centers throughout the night for two shifts (6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.). The warming center is located at the Southside Park Pool House at at local city and faith-based facilities. Security will be provided as well as snacks, drinks, and blankets for people who utilize the warming center.
