Sacramento Children's Home Volunteers needed at donation sites
Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities at Sacramento Children’s Home. During our busy holiday season we are in need of volunteers to assist at our donation sites. There is no need to be finger printed or to have a back ground check to volunteer during the holidays as you would not be around any of the children. I have attached the link to the holiday schedule it to this email. Please review and if there is a time and date you would like to volunteer please fill in the spread sheet and send it back to me.
There are two different donation sites.
- one is at Sacramento Children’s Home and it is the drop off site. At this site donors arrive to drop off the gifts and donations they have purchased. Volunteers are in the reception area of the main building and they greet donors as they arrive and help them to unload. Donations are kept in the reception area until donors leave. The donations are then transferred to a truck to be taken to the sorting site. All this work needs to be done by volunteers. Volunteers need to be able to lift at least 10 pounds and are able to go up and down a few stairs. There is a little down time at the site as we need to wait for donors to arrive. If you want you bring something to keep you occupied while waiting.
Site two is at the Valley Hi Family Resource Center and it is the sorting site. At this site volunteers help to unload the truck that has come from Sacramento Children’s Home with all the gifts and donations. All donations must have an inventory sticker attached, then that inventory number gets hand entered to the data system. After the donation is entered volunteers sort the donations within the site with like items. Again all this work is done by volunteers.
Sacramento Children’s Home’s Giving Program provides gifts for approximately 1,500 children annually. So you can see holiday is a busy time and we could not achieve our goal of providing for the most at risk children in our community without the help of our valued volunteers.
