Hands On Sacramento Emergency Volunteer Corps


Hands On Sacramento Volunteer Corps members are volunteers who have been through the initial Emergency Volunteer Center training and have chosen after training to be a member of the Emergency Volunteer Corps. Emergency Volunteer Corps members will be called upon by Hands On Sacramento to assist at the Emergency Volunteer Center when disaster strikes.

The following are ways that the Emergency Volunteer Corps member may help Hands On Sacramento:

Emergency Volunteer Corps Members: Before Disaster

  • Train to be a part of the EVC leadership structure
  • Complete written plans as needed
  • Learn to use Hands On Sacramento's web-based technology to process new agencies in need of disaster volunteers
  • Organize and update "Go Boxes" for each EVC function
  • Help train new volunteers
  • Participate with the EVC in local disaster simulation exercises
  • Meet with community agencies to learn about their potential disaster volunteer needs before disaster strikes


 Emergency Volunteer Corps Members: During Disaster

  • Work with EVC leadership to open and set-up the Emergency Volunteer Center
  • Staff the EVC
  • Cross train and learn to volunteer at each if the EVC stations
  • Train new volunteers to work at the EVC
  • Provide expertise for the technological aspects of the EVC including disaster volunteer matching via the Hands On Sacramento website

Emergency Volunteer Corps Members: After Disaster

  • Shut down EVC operations
  • Inventory, restock, and reorganize EVC supplies
  • Participate in post-disaster debriefings
  • Help report agency disaster service results to various community groups
  • Help thank community volunteers

Help non-referred volunteers connect with an agency in order to prepare for the next disaster
