How do I become a member of Hands On Sacramento?
Becoming a member of Hands On Sacramento is easy! Simply

register yourself by creating a login account. It does not cost anything and your information will be kept private and secure.

Does it cost me anything to volunteer?
No. Volunteering with Hands On Sacramento is free.

While HOS does periodically ask volunteers to make a financial

contribution, it is not required.

How much time do I have to commit each month?
It's entirely up to you! Our goal is to make volunteering easy for

everyone to fit into their busy schedules, so we offer projects with varying commitment levels. You can volunteer as much or as little as you like based on your time and interest.

After I have become a member, how do I sign up

for a volunteer project?
Click on the volunteer projects section of our website to find

projects that interest you. Sign up for a project through our

website. You will receive an e-mail with directions and any

other special instructions. Then go out on the project and have

a great time while helping to meet an important community need.

What if I am unable to sign up for a project through the website?
You can always contact the Project Leader listed on the calendar or in the newsletter to sign up for the project and obtain information about the project's location. Or call the Hands On Sacramento Office at (916) 447.7063 ext. 344.

What is a Project Leader?
Each Hands On Sacramento volunteer project is supervised by a Project Leader. Project Leaders are extraordinary volunteers who provide the leadership and commitment to make all Hands On Sacramento projects worthwhile and enjoyable.

Project Leaders are responsible for responding to volunteers interested in the project, sharing the project details, and educating participating volunteers about the agency and project. To become a Project Leader, please contact the HOS office.

What kind of volunteer projects does Hands On Sacramento offer?

Each month, Hands On Sacramento organizes and manages more than 30 hands on, direct-service projects in partnership with a variety of community service organizations. We partner with non-profits addressing community issues that impact health, youth and education, hunger and homelessness, seniors and disabled, animal welfare and the environment.

How old do I have to be?

Each project is different. Make sure to check the age listing for each project.

Youth waivers are a requirement for all youth between 1-17 years old.  You will only be required to submit a youth waiver and an email address only once to volunteer for an age appropriate project. To register please follow the process below.

Youth Ages 14-18:

1)  Youth must register online.

2) A youth waiver form must be signed  and submitted by their  parent or guardian.

3) Once we receive your waiver you will be notified by email when you can sign up for a volunteer opportunity posted on Hands On Sacramento.

Youth Ages 1-13:

1) Youth must submit a signed youth waiver including an email address and a project of their choice.

2) Hands On Sacramento will then register you online and sign you up for your project.

3) We will then contact you to confirm your registration.

Note that volunteers under the age of 13 are, by law, are not allowed to sign up for projects online.  To register, they must call Hands On Sacramento at 916-447-7063, ext. 344.

Can I volunteer with my kids?

Absolutely! Each month, we have many "Family Friendly" projects in which kids can volunteer with their parents (check each project description for age requirements, or search the projects according to age appropriateness).

What if I don't find what I'm looking for on your calendar of Monthly Volunteer Project opportunities?

You're in luck! We also manage an extensive database of volunteer referrals. Check out our database of Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities.
