What was the Mayor’s Challenge?
The Mayor's Volunteer Challenge was an effort led by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, in partnership with Hands On Sacramento and Honorary Chair Congress woman Doris Matsui, to encourage volunteerism and service in our community. With the goal of making Sacramento the number one city in California for Volunteering, Volunteer Sacramento asked every resident to donate a minimum of 10 hours
in 2009.
Thank you to all our Mayor's Challenge participants! We
surpassed our goal and logged 1.7 million hours of community service
in 2009. The amount of service you have accomplished translates into an economic contribution of
more than $30 million back into our community.
How Can I Stay Involved?
Hands On Sacramento is the local volunteer action center of Sacramento, providing
volunteer opportunities year-round. So be proud of your accomplishments last year, but
remember to continue your dedication and generosity for years to come!
